What to look for in IT support for your firm
Good IT support for an accounting firm covers three things: the security of your clients’ financial data, uptime through tax, BAS and EOFY, and a service desk that understands Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks. Before you sign with anyone, ask how they price it, how fast they respond, and what happens if you leave.
Four questions worth asking any provider
What does it actually cover?
Security of client financial data, uptime through lodgement peaks, and support for the platforms your practice runs on.
How fast do they respond?
Ask for response times in writing. Ours are 30 minutes for a critical outage, not a best effort.
Is the price fixed?
Flat per-user pricing lets a practice budget. Hourly break-fix bills you most when you can least afford it.
What's actually included?
Check what you’re paying for and what sits outside it. Ours is one flat monthly rate, with hardware, licensing and project work priced separately.
What's included in the flat monthly price
Security management
24×7 SOC monitoring, threat detection and response across your firm’s devices and accounts.
Identity and access
Multi-factor authentication, conditional access and starter, mover and leaver processes done properly.

Microsoft 365 administration
Full administration of Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, Exchange and email security.

Compliance support
Email & Exchange
Client portal support
Firewall management
Proactive hardware replacement
We respond fast. We mean it.
When your business is down we respond within 30 minutes, guaranteed. In BAS, tax or EOFY week that is the difference between a delayed lodgement and a non-event. 24×7 SOC monitoring runs in the background even outside business hours.
| PRIORITY | DEFINITION | RESPONSE TIME |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | Business down / server down | 30 minutes |
| High | Major impact / VIP user | 1 hour |
| Medium | Standard issue / single user | 4 hours |

Frequently asked questions.
How much does IT support for an accounting firm cost?
Essentials is $95 per user per month, flat, from a minimum of 10 users and excluding GST. That covers business-as-usual support: 24×7 monitoring, patching, service desk, security and full Microsoft 365 administration. Hardware, licensing and project work are quoted separately, so you always know what you’re paying for.
Can you keep our systems running during tax, BAS and EOFY deadlines?
Yes. Monitoring and patching run continuously, so most problems are resolved before you notice them. If something critical does go down, our response time is 30 minutes, guaranteed. We also schedule any disruptive work around your lodgement calendar rather than ours.
How do you protect our clients' financial data?
Multi-factor authentication on every account, conditional access so only trusted devices connect, encryption and sensitivity labelling on client files, and managed backups that we test. A 24×7 security operations centre watches for threats outside business hours. We’re ISO 27001 certified, so the controls are audited, not just promised.
Do you support Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Microsoft 365?
Yes. We support the cloud accounting platforms your practice already runs on, along with practice and document management systems and client portals. Microsoft 365 administration is included in the flat price, covering Teams, SharePoint, Exchange and email security.
How is billing handled as we grow?
Essentials is billed per user at one flat monthly rate, from a minimum of 10 users. Billing is trued up quarterly as your headcount changes, so you pay for the people you actually have, and the $95 per user rate stays the same.
What happens when we switch from our current IT provider?
We treat the move as a project with a clear plan. We document your environment, take over accounts and licences, transfer knowledge from your current provider where they’ll cooperate, and work around your deadlines. Most firms are fully onboarded within 30 days.
Do you work with small firms, sole practitioners and bookkeepers?
Yes. Essentials is built for small teams, and per-user pricing means a small bookkeeping practice pays only for the people they have, from the 10-user minimum up. Talk to us about how it works at your size.
